The Melbourne – Sydney Road Trip

The bridge between the UK and the Australian and New Zealand economies has never been stronger. And that is in part thanks to the willingness of some really exciting and innovative companies Down Under to look towards expanding into the UK market.

But while the UK offers fantastic opportunities for young companies from abroad, the journey is far from over once the plane has touched down at Heathrow. Business owners newly arrived in the UK will find that while the market may be welcoming, navigating the intricacies of setting up a business can be time consuming and disruptive.

Paul Beare has built his practice on the back of his team’s expertise in precisely this. And he’s heading for Australia to help the UK’s trade mission explain how things work back in the UK. “The idea is to demystify some of the pre-conceptions that businesses might have about the process of getting started,” Paul explains.

His Australian road trip will take in interactive workshops in Sydney and Melbourne. “They are hosted by the Department of International Trade, and are aimed at helping businesses to understand the mechanics of setting up in the UK,” says Paul.

The workshops are designed to stimulate conversation about the hopes and concerns of Australian companies keen to make their mark in the UK. Paul Beare’s long and specialized experience in this field means there’s usually an answer to almost every question.

“I spend a lot of time in Australia because there are so many energetic and innovative businesses here that I know would thrive in the UK – provided they get the right practical help they need,” he says.

“Whether it’s payroll or banking, tax or insurance, there are a few hoops to jump through when you’re getting up and running,” says Paul. “And we do sometimes see company’s get sidetracked from their main mission – finding new customers and growing the business – by the burdens of admin.

“So it’ll be great to meet new companies in Australia that want to take the next step. We’ve worked with lots of companies here, and the DIT is really committed to helping them come to the UK. We think spending time in Sydney and Melbourne is a great way to meet new contacts, understand their concerns and answer their questions,” says Paul.
